Daje Morris

I saw the words that you spoke in your mind
They were written in your irises
And you said them to me in your smile
And you sang them to me in your touch

But when I decided to allow life to flow through my veins
When I decided that I liked my space with windows instead of walls
When I decided to be brave and let the warm sun settle on
The roots that had no former place to grow

You took those words away
Because you were afraid.

I have now found more faithful words
To break open the sallow dirt
My wild roots have found
The deeper wells
My soul will bloom

This life will thrive.
